Algeria purchased a small shipment of wheat due to a reduction in available ports for unloading
Algeria’s state grain agency, OAIC, purchased a batch of food wheat in an international tender on Tuesday, November 11, according to European traders, Zawya reports.
Traders estimate the purchase volume at around 150,000-170,000 tonnes. Although the tender nominally provided for 50,000 tonnes, the requirement to unload at only two ports — Mostaganem and/or Tenes — usually indicates relatively small volumes.
Purchase prices, according to traders, were $263-264 per tonne C&F for deliveries to the port of Mostaganem and $270-271/t C&F for the port of Tenes. Some estimates indicate that the cost of wheat for Tenes could reach $273.5/t C&F.
The wheat was purchased from any origin, but most likely from the Black Sea region and/or the European Union.
Deliveries are to be made in several stages from December 2025 to February 2026 from major supply regions, including Europe. If the grain is purchased from South America or Australia, shipments are to begin a month earlier.
