US winter wheat harvest accelerates

Last week, dry weather in the US “wheat belt” allowed the pace of harvesting the new crop to accelerate, which in previous weeks had been slow due to rain. By June 29, 37% of the area under winter wheat had been threshed, which is 18% more than the week before, but 5% less than the average for the same date over the past five years. This was reported by the Zerno On-Line agency with reference to the National Agricultural Statistical Service of the US Department of Agriculture (NASS).
Spring wheat crops are developing a little faster than usual. The condition of wheat is still worse than last year. The share of crops in good and excellent condition is now 53%, which is 19% less than a year ago.
The condition of corn crops, on the contrary, is better than last year. The share of corn crops in good and excellent condition is 73%, which is 1% more than the week before and 6% more than last year.
