US corn and spring wheat crops deteriorate
Last week, the condition of corn crops in the United States worsened for the first time this year, the Zerno On-line agency reports, citing the National Agricultural Statistical Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (NASS).
The share of corn crops in good and excellent condition fell to 70%, which is 2% less than the week before. However, corn crops remain in better condition than last year.
The condition of spring wheat crops also worsened last week. The share of crops in good and excellent condition decreased from 57% to 54%. A year ago, this figure was 71%.
The pace of winter wheat harvesting is still below average. By June 22, 19% of the area had been threshed (38% on the same date last year and 28% on average over the past five years).
