China recognized Ukrainian peas on a par with Canadian ones

Ukrainian pulses producers are actively looking for the most profitable global sales markets, but the key factor remains the price. They pay special attention to cooperation with China. This was reported by the press service of the Ukraine Pulse and Soybean Association (UPSA).
“We are currently considering various markets for our products. Ukrainian soybeans, peas, chickpeas, lentils, and beans are certainly expected in the European Union, as well as in African and Asian countries. But the key thing for us is the price. We cannot focus on only one direction, so we are looking where the conditions are more favorable. European partners say that they are ready for cooperation, for compromises, and even declare their intentions to invest in enterprises in western Ukraine. At the same time, the price they offer is often lower than in other countries. Therefore, we remain open, but we approach this pragmatically — where there is economic sense, we move there,” noted Antonina Sklyarenko, president of the Ukrainian Bean and Soybean Association, during her speech at the Agro Ukraine Summit.
The association pays special attention to working with China. However, China’s regulatory requirements for this area are extremely high.
“The Ukraine Pulse and Soybean Association recently worked out in detail the export of peas to China together with the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection. There are a lot of technical requirements that need to be met. The Chinese have included points in the protocol for peas that were not there for other crops. But we are working anyway, because there is demand, and it is thanks to this that the price of peas has risen. And what is very important — the Chinese side has officially recognized: Ukrainian peas surpass the quality indicators of the products of the aggressor country and fully correspond to Canadian ones. And Canadian peas are considered a benchmark in the world. “So we have all the prerequisites to become a long-term supplier,” the president of UPSA emphasized.
