Brazil. Chicken exports up 18% in volume and 23% in revenue

According to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein Producers (ABPA), Brazilian chicken meat exports, both fresh and processed, increased by 17.9% in February.

A total of 468.4 thousand tons were shipped, compared to 397.2 thousand tons in the same month last year. This is the best result for the entire period.

As for foreign exchange earnings, the result is even more impressive: the growth was 23.1%, amounting to 870.4 million US dollars in February of this year, compared to 707 million US dollars compared to the same month in 2024.

The amount of exports this year (January-February) reached 911.4 thousand tons, which is 13.6% more than in the same period last year (802.2 thousand tons). In terms of revenue, growth in the first two months reached USD 1.696 billion, up 22% from last year’s total of USD 1.390 billion.

Among export destinations in February, China led the way with 49.6 thousand tons, up 18.1% from the same period last year. Next in line were:

• United Arab Emirates: 38.8 thousand tons (-1.5%);
• Saudi Arabia: 31.5 thousand tons (-3.6%);
• Japan: 27.7 thousand tons (-24%);
• South Africa: 24.5 thousand tons (+36.1%);
• Philippines: 23.2 thousand tons (+2.1%);
• Mexico: 20.9 thousand tons (+272.3%);
• European Union: 20,600 tonnes (+11.5%);
• South Korea: 18,000 tonnes (+23.3%);
• Iraq: 15,600 tonnes (-2.6%)

“There continues to be strong demand for Brazilian chicken on the international market, either as a result of disruptions in trade flows between countries affected by H5N1 cases or as a result of measures to support domestic supplies in countries experiencing difficulties. The volume of shipments to date indicates that the initial forecasts for Brazilian exports should be exceeded,” said ABPA President Ricardo Santin.

Parana remains Brazil’s largest chicken exporter, with 186,000 tonnes shipped in February (+15.9% year-on-year). It is followed by:

• Santa Catarina: 106,600 tonnes (+15.5%);
• Rio Grande do Sul: 69.8 thousand tons (+19.5%);
• Sao Paulo: 27.1 thousand tons (+40.3%);
• Goias: 20.5 thousand tons (+18.7%).
