117 vessels with Ukrainian grain are awaiting inspection
Ships carrying Ukrainian grain continue to be lined up for inspection. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
“Since the beginning of 2023, the average number of inspections is 2.5 vessels per day compared to 3.5 vessels in December 2022. Currently, 117 vessels with Ukrainian grain are waiting in line,” the press service said.
It is noted that each day of downtime brings losses to farmers, as it leads to a drop in the purchase price.
Therefore, at the meeting of the Coordination Council for Logistics in Agriculture, they discussed changing the rules for forming a queue for ship inspections in the Bosphorus. They also touched upon the issue of increasing their tonnage and planning the work of marine terminals and operators.
The participants of the meeting proposed to increase the minimum tonnage of vessels to 25 thousand tons, as well as to introduce long-term planning of terminals and operators.
It was decided to hold an extraordinary meeting of the Join Coordination Council on February 9.
Representatives of agricultural associations also spoke out against Ukrzaliznytsia’s ban on the use of private gondola cars for grain transportation.
Market participants emphasized that the logistics costs of grain transportation remain too high and negatively affect the ability of farmers to plant grain crops in 2023.
In addition, they initiated a revision of the established minimum price level of UAH 2,795 per day at the Dutch auctions for the use of Ukrzaliznytsia’s grain carriers and an increase in the speed of freight cars, including grain carriers.
As a reminder, Ukraine exported 5.5 mln tons of grains, oilseeds and their products in January this year.
