Russia. Planted area of spring grains to increase 2% in 2019
The Ag Ministry of Russia says the country’s total planted area in 2019 will be 80.5 Ml ha, or 1.3 Ml ha (1.6%) larger than in 2018. 52.9 Ml ha will be planted to spring crops, or 0.8% more than this year. It is projected to allocate 30.3 Ml ha to spring grains and pulses (up 2.2% from 2018).
In addition, spring wheat acreage is expected to gain 368.3 Th ha, reaching 12.36 Ml ha, reports UkrAgroConsult.
According to the Agriculture Ministry of Russia, the planted area of oil crops is forecast to shrink in 2019, including a 150.2 Th ha drop in spring rape area, to 1.2 Ml ha.
It is projected to expand soybean sowings by 27.9 Th ha, to 2.96 Ml ha. Sunflower acreage is expected at 7.6 Ml ha, or down 466.9 Th ha from 2018.
