Ukraine. The conditions were favorable for survival of winter crops
The end of January and the beginning of February featured relatively warm weather with significant precipitation in the form of rain and sleet. Winter crops have been dormant since a month ago.
The conditions were favorable for survival of winter crops.
A temperature increase in the southern regions caused plants to partially resume growing. Thereby they spent sugars in their tillering nodes that reduces frost- and winter-resistance of crops and jeopardizes their survival. The phytosanitary condition of winter grains is good, UkrAgroConsult reports.
Precipitation greatly improved soil moisture in winter crop fields. This particularly concerns the south, which had featured low content of effective soil moisture in both top and 100-cm layers.
Weather forecast for February 9-14:
– Precipitation in the form of rain, snow, sleet is expected all over the territory;
– The western, central, northern regions will receive 25-50 mm, with 10-25 mm expected in the south and east. Snow cover in the fields will be stable;
– Air temperatures are not forecast to fall to dangerously low levels for winter crops;
